Kolorz
Native Mac color picker — pick from anywhere, copy HEX, RGB, and HSL, with menu bar access and recent color history.
Platform: macOS 14.0+
What It Does
Kolorz is the simplest way to pick a color on macOS and copy it in the format you actually need. It uses Apple’s built-in color picker — the same one you already know from Pages, Keynote, and Preview — and adds the things it has always been missing: every color value ready to copy, a global eyedropper shortcut, recent color history, and menu bar access.
Output Formats
| Format | Example |
| HEX | #FF6B35 |
| RGB | rgb(255, 107, 53) |
| HSL | hsl(16, 100%, 60%) |
Menu Bar Access
- Always One Click Away — The menu bar icon gives you instant access to the eyedropper, current color, and recent history from any app.
- Pick Color Button — Launch the system eyedropper directly from the popover.
- Quick Actions — Open the full color panel, clear history, or access settings from the overflow menu.
Pick from Anywhere
- Global Shortcut — Press ⌥⌘C from any app to launch the eyedropper. No need to switch to Kolorz first. The shortcut is fully customizable in Settings.
- Eyedropper — Click any pixel on screen with the system magnifier loupe.
- Color Wheel, Sliders, Palettes — Every native macOS picking tool, in one window.
- Image Samplers — Pull palettes from any image you drop in.
Recent Colors
- Automatic History — Every color you sample is saved to a persistent history of your last 24 colors.
- One-Click Recall — Click any recent swatch to set it as the current color.
- Drag to Swatches — Drag any recent color directly into the color panel’s swatch grid to save it permanently.
Copy
- One-Click Copy — Click the copy icon on any row to put that format on your clipboard.
- Drag & Drop — Drag recent colors straight into Sketch, Figma, Xcode, or any app that accepts color drops.
Paste to Convert
- Bidirectional Conversion — Paste any color value into any row and press Return. Kolorz parses it, applies it to the picker, and updates every other format.
- Modern CSS Syntax — Accepts both legacy comma-separated (
rgb(255, 107, 53)) and modern space-separated (rgb(255 107 53)) CSS syntax.
- Round-Trip Accurate — Works with HEX (including 3-character shorthand like
#FFF), RGB, and HSL. No precision loss.
Settings
- Stay on Top — Keep the color panel floating above every other app. Persistent between launches.
- Launch at Login — Start Kolorz automatically when you log in.
- Custom Shortcut — Remap the global eyedropper shortcut to any key combination you prefer.
Keyboard Shortcuts
- ⌥⌘C — Pick Color (global — works from any app, customizable)
- ⇧⌘P — Pick Color (in-app)
- ⌘1 — Copy HEX
- ⌘2 — Copy RGB
- ⌘3 — Copy HSL
Clear Swatches
To reset the color panel’s swatch grid, choose Color › Clear Swatches… from the menu bar. Kolorz will quit and clear the saved swatches. Relaunch from the Dock or Applications folder to start fresh.
100% Native
- No Electron — Pure SwiftUI & AppKit. Built on the system color picker.
- No Tracking — Kolorz does not collect any data. Your colors never leave your Mac.
- Sandboxed — Runs fully sandboxed on Mac.
